Hi Bros

I´m still runnig for information about the Order around the world.
I´d like to know some things about DeMolay International:
1. What is it?
2. What Happened with the title "International Supreme Council"?
3. Wich countries are under its jurisdiction?

Someone here have the constitution or the statute and rules of DeMolay International in .doc or .pdf?

Cheers

Well I can answer questions one and two, but not all of number 3.
DeMolay International is the business and legal name of the original DeMolay organization in Kansas City. It has a President and Board of Directors that run the day to day business, and things like the DeMolay and More store.
The International Supreme Council is still active and meets every year for general sessions. This is comprised of Active and Deputy members from all jurisdictions. New members are elected to membership in the annual general sessions. Also, the ISC elects councilors to run it every year. The Grand Master, Grand Senior Councilor, and the Grand Junior Councilor are in charge of the ISC.
There is also the DeMolay Congress, which is made up of the DeMolays from the eight regions of DI. They meet at the same time as the ISC, and elect a International Master Councilor, and an International Congress Secretary every year.
I know that the large part of North America (the United States and Canada) is under the jurisdiction of DeMolay International and the ISC, but there are other countries (eg Brazil) that have their own Supreme Council and business organization.

I have also yet to find a good copy of the ISC statutes in .doc or .pdf format.

The only set of International By-Laws that I know of, which are on-line, are from 2001.

These are on the Oregon DeMolay web site:

Brethren,

For those who maybe didn't quite follow the above thread, "DeMolay International" is the new name for what most of us still call "The International Supreme Council" of DeMolay. The terms are, for practical purposes, interchangable.

The name change was necessary when the body was legally re-incorporated under different legal status.

DI/ISC has jurisdiction over DeMolay throughout the word, EXCEPT where they have set up a daughter Supreme Council and ceded jurisdiction to them, such as Brazil, or the Phillippines, or Australia.

OR in cases where ISC/DI has ceded a jurisdiction to one of these daughter SCs, such as (I believe) extension of DeMolay into Portugal was ceded to the SC of Brazil, where the ritual is worked in Portuguese.

DeMolays throughout the world are saddened by the situation in Brazil where the SC of DeMolay has split into hostile camps, and half of the Chapters yield alligence to each of these rival SC's.

Hopefully, eventually calmer heads will prevail and a new "United Supreme Council of DeMolay for Brazil" will re-emerge in the future. As the United Grand Lodge of England was formed by uniting the warring Freemasonic Grand Lodges of "The Ancients" with the "The Moderns".

Respectfully and Fraternally,

D.

For the record, DeMolay Intenational is the governing corporation. (There are several DeMolay corporations with various purposes.) The International Supreme Council is part of DeMolay International and is comprised of Class 1,2,3,4 members: 1-Active Members (Gold Collars); 2-Emeritas Members; 3-Deputy Members; and 4-Honorary Members.

If the ISC is just a part of the DI, is the head of the DI different from the ISC?

To whom does the Executive Officers report? How about the Field Representatives?

Bro.BBZ,
Actually DeMolay International or DI, as people call it replaced what we used to call the "Order of DeMolay" not ISC as previously mentioned.
The International Supreme Council is the governing body of DI along with the Board of Directors.
The Executive Officers are Active members of ISC. The Executive Officers "report" to no one but serve at the will and pleasure of the DeMolay Grand Master.
The Field Representatives are staff members at the Service & Leadership Center in Kansas City and currently report to the Executive Director of DeMolay International.

So, there is no more organization named "Order of DeMolay" because it was replaced by "DeMolay International"? I personally believe that the better name for our fraternity should still be "Order of DeMolay".

Brothers,

I believe that we are getting into the legalism vrs the reality here.

The Reality is that the Order of DeMolay is the long established name and trademark of DeMolay where ever located around the world.

The Corporate entity, based in the US, was renamed as "DI", however, in any territory where another chartered DeMolay Supreme Council has authority, "DI" effectively does not exist.

So in Brazil, or the Phillippines, or Australia, the Organization which answers to that Chartered Supreme Council would be called, for legal purposes, whatever the corporate laws for that country dictated, but the "trademark" name, or "service mark" name, if you would, is still the "Order of DeMolay".

The legal issues, if any, can be resolved if you consider it a case of "doing business as the Order of DeMolay", whatever the legal incorporation language in the country you are in.

So, let us abstain from using the term "Order of DeMolay" from now on ?

That's up to you, Brother.

I see no reason to not use the name "Order of DeMolay", since it is our established "brand".

Seems this is a confusing issue. The parent/governing corporation is DeMolay International with Class 1-8 Members.

DI reserves the use of DeMolay, ISC, and Order of DeMolay.

BRR 2006 cites as follows:
BY-LAWS OF DeMOLAY INTERNATIONAL
ARTICLE I GENERAL PROVISIONS
Section 1. The name of this corporation is
"DEMOLAY INTERNATIONAL".
Section 4. Definitions. In these bylaws:
(b) "Order" or "Order of DeMolay" means the
fraternal organization operated by or appendant to DeMolay International.
(h) "Supreme Council" means the Class 1,2,
3 and 4 members of DeMolay International.
ARTICLE III NAME. JURISDICTION AND POWERS
Section 1. Name.
(a) The use of the name "DeMolay" is
reserved to DeMolay International, its Chapters and appendant organizations.
(b) DeMolay International shall have the right
to use the name of the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay and appropriate
abbreviations and variations of the name.

DeMOLAY INTERNATIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
PART I GENERAL PROVISIONS
ARTICLE 1 GENERAL PROVISIONS
101.3 Definitions. In these rules and regulations:
(b) "Order" or "Order of DeMolay" means
the fraternal organization operated by or appendant to DeMolay International.
(h) "Supreme Council" means the Class 1,2,
3 and 4 members of DeMolay International.

Hope this helps, let me know if anyone needs anything further.

THEY CAN CHANGE THE NAME OF OUR ORGANIZATION, BUT THEY SHOULD NEVER CHANGE THE WORD "DeMOLAY".

Hello bros!
My name is Andreas Terán. I am a Senior DeMolay from La Paz Bolivia and I've got a question I think you can help me with:
What benefits do DeMolays in the U.S. and in other countries recieve from paying their "DeMolay Card" annually (if any)?

Thank you very much!

Brother Andreas, welcome to the Forums!

In the United States DeMolays do not pay annual dues. We have a system of Lifetime Membership Fees when initated.

I am not sure what other countries do, but those under DI (ISC) use the lifetime approach.

Let me know if this answers your question!
