How many chapters out there have sweethearts!?

I had to become inactive about two years ago due to work and school, when I returned they took away our Sweethearts. Any suggestions?

In Wisconsin, we have a very active Sweetheart Program. All active Chapters have a Sweetheart.

Brother Derek,

You say "they" took away your Sweethearts (plural)?

Could you define "they" a bit more? Unless the EO made a ruling for the whole Jurisdiction, there is no "they" who can take away the Sweetheart program from more than one Chapter.

The Advisors of a Chapter do have to approve a Sweetheart program, and rules for it in a Chapter, but I have never known an AC to abolish a program, once approved.

What I HAVE seen is the members of a Chapter just quit electing a Sweetheart, for whatever reason. Sometimes the average age of Chapter membership drops so low to where no one nominates a elligable young lady, and the Sweetheart position falls vacant.

If that is the case, you have met the "they", and "you" is one of "them", and in a perfect position to re-start the program, Brother Senior Councilor!

Active DeMolays are the most important people in the Order, for without you, nothing else would have any reason to exist.

And I assure you ISC hasn't "taken away your Sweethearts."

I'm not sure who they are, but for the chapter I am in "they" ruled to get rid of our Sweethearts after an incident a little while ago.

Because I got busy with college and work, I didn't know what was going on.

From what I heard the Chapter was pretty much considered inactive until myself and three others came back. (Which was like a month ago?)

At the moment we are trying to get the Sweetheart Court back. Only problem we have now is we don't have a female Advisor.

4 brothers and you are worried about a Sweetheart Court?!? Heck, spend your time getting some fun events and recruiting - you don't need a Sweetheart until you have a fully functional Chapter!

You might want to consider Dad "Blaze"'s remarks in another light, too.

Would you be honored or embarrased to be asked to be a Rain-Beau or a Bethel Beau (the Rainbow and Jobie equivalents of a male "Sweetheart") to an Assembly or a Bethel with only 4 participating members?

If you get the Chapter up to ten members participating on a regular basis, then I think you would not be insulting a young lady to ask her to be the Chapter Sweetheart of your Chapter.

on the topic of sweethearts. In Jacksonville Chapter in NC we have revitalized the sweetheart program. Called the Sweetheart Society. A court of sweethearts. We have alot of schools under our chapter, and our sweethearts help recruit new members. The sweethearts play an active role in membership. If you would like to know more contact me. The sweethearts are greatly bringing something to the demolay table.

Under this same topic, as i looked in the leaders pack, i have questions for the experts. I see the sweethearts can earn the LCC and certificates, but what about merit bars and other items?..can anyone help me on this. I also dont see anything about the pink honor key. DOes this still exist?

I would have to say to answer your qestion. The Merit bars are given out to Active DeMolay. The pink honor key there is a stipulation to how many members a Jobie/rainbow must recruit to earn teh Pink honor key. In my state a jobie/rainbow if they recruit one member they automatically reciveve the Pink honor key. But it is different I know in other states. As far as honors I dont think the ladies can recieve them. Other wise I would say maybe I am wrong but the Hats off award is a possiblity, Medel of apprecaiation. But the Pink honor key does exists I have seen it and what not and I myself hold the Blue honor key in my chapter. So hope this helps a bit.

Dear Brother,

I agree with Bro Derek, The Pink Honor key does exists. In my Chapter we give it to the Rainbow with the most recruited members each term.
As for the LCC, I think the can also buy the Lamp of Knowledge pin (not 100% sure) correct me if I'm wrong please.
The only HONOR a female can get is the Cross of Honor if I'm not mistaken.
Other awards the ladies can receive are like bro Derek said the hats off award, Medal of appreciation and some certificates etc.

Brother Chalam_josh,

I forgot to mention the LCC my appologizes they can take that I remember reading that in the Resource guide when I took the courses. The Cross of honor the only way a female can recieve it is if she is a Advisor. Other wise the Sweethearts are able to take the LCC courses and recieve the Hats off, Medel of appreciattion and the Pink honor key.

A Pink Honor Key is available through the DeMolay and More Store. The requirements to earn the Pink Honor Key are established by the Executive Officer.

I was gonna say that but dident even think about it. But one cant just go and order a pink honor key and what not. They must be earned. In our state the EO established the requirements for the Pink honor key. But the Blue honor key stays the same. 10 members I have an old 1930's letter and deal a Chapter dad had to fill out to actually have a demolay that brought 10 members in. He had to fill it out and send it to Kanas city in order of the Demolay to recieve the Blue honor key. Now adays they send it to the Chairman or Chapter dad to hand out. But you dont have to fill out any forms for it. Headquarters keeps track on how many guys you bring in. Just thougtht I would say a little more.

Thanks

Brother Derek

The DeMolay Sweetheart is a position not officially existing in the DI Bylaws. Having emerged from the prqactice of other Fraternities of electing Sweethearts, the rules are governed by your EO or you Advisory Council.

They should be written into you Chapter's Bylaws so they are know to all members.

The Sweetheart has been a common feature of DeMolay Chapters since at least the 1950's.

Sweetheart Courts are newer and seem to be made up of all the young ladies nominated for the position of Sweetheart, in some cases, or in other that the Chapter chooses both a Sweetheart and a Junior Sweetheart by age groups.

I have never been associated with a Chapter having a Court, so I am only experienced in having a single Sweetheart per Chapter.

Perhaps someone from a Chapter with a COurt can provide more info.

Dale
