My memory of the 9 o'clock iterpolation response was "God Bless Mother, God Bless Father, God Bless the purposes and ideals of DeMolay" Is my memory wrong or has it been changed?
I cannot find my pin from 1948 can you tell me how many pearls and how many rubies would there have been in my pin? Thank you Bob Jones, SD, Chev. PM Copestone Ophir Lodge # 108 Kearny NJ Winter Park Lodge # 239 Winter Park FL |

My brother,
about the pearls and rubies, now there have only rubies (every founder died - the pearls are when they are alive) But about the response of 9 o´clock I don´t know how it was a time ago... Bob, The Seventh Edition of the Ritual was published in 1945 and the Eighth in 1959, so based on your dates, it would be in the Seventh Edition. In that one, the response was "God bless mother, God bless father, God bless the purposes of DeMolay." It's been that way in every Ritual since then and also going back to the Fourth Edition, dated 1926. The Third Edition (no date), has "God bless Mother, God bless Father, God bless the guests in the Masonic Home at .......". Craig Phillips |

Brother Bob,
In 1948 they were still using the red design Pin which had begun 1932. It wasn't until 1949 that the current design was adopted. While we have the pretty story that Dad Land always intended the pearls to change to rubies (odd as the colors are reversed from the Flower Talk) but I have never seen a pin before 1949 that had ANY rubies in it. Even the second (blue) design should have had one ruby after 1921 until 1932 because in 1921 Ivan Bentley, I believe, was killed in an accident. Louis Lower was the second in 1942. Yours should have had two, as the 1949 new pin had when it was put into use. It remained at two until 1959, when Dad Land became the third Ruby. Hope this helps. Fraternally, Dale |

Bob,
To agree with Dad Dale, it has two rubies. Interestingly enough, I just acquired an alter cloth with an emblem containing two red rubies. So, over the last week I have been doing a little research to date it. As Dad Dale listed in a previous post. Listing the ten rubies and the dates accordingly Dad Dale posted... Extracted from a speech by Grand Orator and PGM Reese Harrison, March 18, 1994: A Bit about The Original Nine DeMolays Ivan M. Bentley lived in Louis Lower's neighborhood. Crowned a Chevalier in 1920. Died in an accident in 1921. His death made him the first Ruby in the emblem. Louis G. Lower 1st Obligated DeMolay; PMC of Mother Chapter. Crowned a Chevalier in 1920. 1st Active LOH Legionnaire on May 28, 1926; Killed July 18, 1943. The Second Ruby. Edmund Marshall lived next door to Elmer Dorsey. Crowned a Chevalier 1920. Graduated from University of Missouri. President of the Kansas City Board of Trade. Died November 8, 1966. The Fourth Ruby. (Frank Land was the third). Clyde C. Stream a cousin of Gorman McBride. Was a technical Engineer with the Sagano Electric Company. Retired to Bradenton, Florida. Died May 3, 1971. The Fifth Ruby. Gorman A. McBride lived in the neighborhood with Louis Lower. 2nd Obligated DeMolay. 1st Master Councilor of Mother Chapter. Crowned a Chevalier 1920. Became an Active Member of the International Supreme Council. A Lawyer by profession. Recieved the Founder's Cross from Dad Land, the only one of the original nine to do so. Was Director of Activities at ISC Headqarters in the 1960s. Died November 10, 1973. The Sixh Ruby. Ralph Sewell lived in the home of Louis Lower. Became the Credit Manager for H. D. Lee Mercantile Company, makers of Lee jeans. Skilled Pianist and Organist. Died July, 1976. The Seventh Ruby. Elmer V. Dorsey lived just behind Louis Lower. PMC of Mother Chapter. Became a successful stock and bond broker. Captain of the first DeMolay baseball Team. Died October 28, 1992. The Ninth Ruby. Jerome Jacobson lived one block from Louis Lower. The tenth and final Ruby. I felt it was fitting to repost this information. Fraternally Yours, Cash Stocker Fraternally Yours, Cash Stocker |

God Bless Mother, God Bless Father, God Bless Our Founders, God Bless Every Member and the purposes and the Order of DeMolay, AMEN.
that's not official but thats what i prayed this past memorial day while putting flags on veterans tombstones and another prayer for the masonic veterans. just a simple silent prayer with each flag, as a solemn obligation of just that least amount of simple patriotism. |
