Hey,

Ask anyone who's been there...the Old South Tournament is a real "top drawer event" in the realm of the DeMolay Experience.

Of course part of it IS being in New Orleans ... the food, the music, the history, the atmosphere. "Nawlins" is like no where else in the USA, and probably not in the world (I haven't been everywhere, so I must allow for the possibility).

But a LOT of it is the DOST itself, fatastic Brotherhood, Competition, Friendships, Rivalries, and all around "Good Times Rollin".

We plan to have Tournament shirts available this year as keepsakes of the trip and other innovations and surprises; while keeping ALL the Good Stuff that you already know about, if you've been there before.

Bring your Brothers, and enter you Chapter in the Open Division if you aren't yet State Champions to enter the Championship Division.

"And a fantastic experience was had by all present" is the only way to summarise it, when it's over.

Due to some conflicts with schedules the DI Board of Directors Meeting has been rescheduled to Kansas City!

While we are disappointed that the leadership of DeMolay International will NOT be joining us in New Orleans, the competition and Brotherhood will continue!

Get those registrations in now and we will see you in New Orleans!

Deadline for EARLY registration is Friday, February 22, 2008.

That's unfortunate, but Old South will still be a great time.

Well Peter, it depends on how well you play it.
And would Wii Baseball Count as Athletics? LOL

Hmmmm, How about a DeMolay Internet Wii Bowling Tournament?!?!?!?!

I dunno about that, but Dance Dance Revolution certainly should count toward the athletics bar. When I was playing the home version a lot, I kicked it over to the "workout" mode a couple of times to see how many calories I was burning. I'm not even very good at DDR... I usually play five-foot songs on standard mode, and struggle to get B's and A's. But it turns out that even that poor level of play is equivalent to running ten minute miles. (!!!)

And I'll tell you one thing... DDR is a WHOLE lot more habit-forming than running...

john

The possibilities are endless. :-)

According to the leatest figures, there will be 77 competitions at DOST this year, including two Initiatory Degrees and two DeMolay Degrees.

For those not conversant with DOST, there is a special Award called ACTS, established by the late Bro. Dan Mehn, which recognizes special, original, and creative efforts in Ritual, above and beyond the minimum required to compete.

This results in breaking new ground for competitors. It is not an automatic award, and could be won by a Competitor who DID NOT win the Competition itself.

An ACTS winner could bring an entirely new interpretation of a Degree, which perhaps didn't score the top marks, but which opened up a whole new approach to that work.

Anyone interested in the ACTS award should contact Dad Martino, AFTER DOST is over for the year. He's a little busy right now.

Fraternally,

Dale

Attention!

We are currently looking for Senior DeMolays and Advisors types to be trained and work as Evaluators at the DeMolay Old South Tournament NEXT weekend (March 14-16) in New Orleans Louisiana. We have an unexpectedly large number of entrants and need some more personnel. If interested go to the DOST website and contact me through there!DOST Ritual Tournament

Now that DOST 2008 is in the history books, Congratulations to all who participated and to everyone who made it possible. Especially the new Evaluators who took the course just in time to serve! Thank you for your dedication and support.

There was a much larger contingent this year, so perhaps the participation drop following Hurricane Katrina is finally being erased.

The Board of Directors discussed allowing competition in the Chevalier Degree and in the Knighthood Investiture. The Chevalier Degree might also allow for Senior DeMolays to participate as "qualified persons".

Interested persons should keep an eye on the DOST Web site and direct any questions to Dad Martino or a member of the Board of Directors.

When the DOST Webmaster get time to update the Site, hopefully we will add information on the ACTS Award as well as the 2008 Conetest Winners and the updates on new competitions and rules changes for future DOST competitions.
