But hes not the brightest either because there is more of younger newer memebers then there are of him......... and now they are planning to petition him out of the chapter..... in all of my four years being a demolay i never heard that they can do that.......... can they do that?

I have never heard of a member being voted or petitioned out of the Order. I have always heard the saying "Once a DeMolay, Always a DeMolay." What are your advisors saying or doing about the situation? Has anyone attempted to sit the young man down, tell him how he is making the Brother's feel, and asked him why he feels the need to bully others? Has anyone inquired into what this young man does outside of DeMolay? Maybe there is something going on in his personal life that he feels DeMolay provides an outlet for!

well he has been getting warnings from the advisory council for numerous reasons but he has been skating on thin ice its gotten so bad that we have been getting promises of leaving from the younger boys........ and clearly to everyone to kick one out is better than everyone else leaving........ and the advisors just shrug it off. i believe only a drastic confrontation can awaken the advisors.

It is very concerning that the advisors are having such a laid back approach, and I am also concerned by your language of "only a drastic confrontation can awaken the advisors." Have you attempted to talk with the Master of the Lodge (If he is not one of your advisor)for guidance? Have you contacted your State Master Councilor or Executive Officer? If not, do so! Get your State Elected Officers involved, this is the exact reason "you" elect them! They are your elected leaders and should be as active as possible during their year in every chapter, and should visit each chapter at least once during their term of office.

I don't think it is a great idea to invlove everyone in this problem. Calling your SMC and EO is a good suggestion, but the Master of the Lodge can do nothing but add to the drama that is already there. We don't need to hang our dirty laundry out so everyone can see it.

brethren, each of us have different attitudes & different beliefs. All we have to ask is change or accept each brethren for what he is. We too have problems like yours and even other organizations too. The word "brotherhood" matters.
Brotherhood - the state of being brothers or a brother. A brother is one with whom you dare to be yourself. He accepts you as what you are. He seems to ask you to do nothing - only to be just what you are. Don't bother. Things change everytime the world tuns around. |

Nick,
Every position in the chapter is important, and none are more important than the other! While the responsibilities and leadership role is higher as you proceed in the ranks, the 1st Preceptor is just as important as the Master Councilor! "With Great Power, comes an even Greater Responsibility!" Louie, DeMolay is set apart by the fact that "we", the young men RUN the Order! We are the decision makers. We decide the success and fail rate of our chapters, our States, our Jurisdictions, our Countries! While we are to treat and accept each other as Brothers, bullying should never be tolerated. Of the many lessons I have learned from DeMolay one of them is that "we must learn how to lead by example." What kind of example is set when bullying is tolerated and accepted in the name of "Brotherhood?" Kevin D. Gailfoil, Esq. I, myself, is an advocate of human rights. I do not tolerate bullying, same as our chapter. I was a victim of bullying too. Try to stand up like you're David and that guy is Goliath. If you don't stand up then you cannot apply change. That's what we did here in Dumaguete (Philippines), we frankly told the person that a lot doesn't like his behavior. Well, many things happened and eventually, he changed.
